Media Cut-Through Workshop

Learn what works.

Get results.

This is for the
frustrated in-house PR pros who spent ages on a press release or campaign only for it to be ignored.

It’s for all the busy charity employees or anyone who’s been trying to drum up media attention but keeps getting ghosted.

The game has changed. The old rules of engagement no longer apply.

It’s not your fault. And it’s not journalists’ fault either.

Let’s work on getting your pitches pitch perfect, your stories succinct and your relationships with journalists lifted to another level.

The media landscape has changed. You need to level up your game with up-to-date knowledge and contacts.

Correlate can help.

What you can expect

My Media Cut-Through Workshop is a half-day, high-impact session.

Designed to get your team off the hairy hamster wheel, and into the headlines.

We’re not just going to talk theory; we’re going to roll up our sleeves and dig into the nitty-gritty of what actually works in New Zealand’s media today. And have a laugh along the way.

What you'll learn

This is real-life, real-time, relevant info from a journalist and communications professional who has current knowledge and contacts.

I used to run newsrooms and news bulletins and have read thousands of press releases and story pitches. I can show you what’s effective and what you may as well throw straight into the rubbish bin.

Think of this as your team’s rocket ship to understanding the current media landscape. In just a few hours we’ll cover:

Story Spotting session focused on finding standout story angles that capture media attention and get coverage.

Story Spotting

We'll learn to identify the diamonds. It’s not just about what you want to say, but what journalists actually want to hear. We'll turn your messages into un-ignorable stories a news editor wants to run.

Learn how to craft short, compelling media pitches that grab journalists’ attention and lead to coverage.

The Pitch That Lands

We'll ditch the jargon-heavy press release and learn how to write a pitch that’s short, sharp, and packs a punch. A pitch that makes a journalist think, “Yes! I need to write about this now."

Compass icon representing guidance through New Zealand’s evolving media landscape and building strong journalist relationships.

Navigate the New Normal

The media landscape in New Zealand is a wild place right now. I'll walk you through the new rules and unspoken codes that journalists operate by.

I'll give you insider knowledge to build real, lasting relationships with the people who tell the stories.

Q&A with an Insider

We'll have a session where you can ask me anything you want about media. I’ll be your "insider" journalist, providing candid feedback on your past pitches and helping you get to the truth of what works.

A Little About Me

I’ve spent over 20 years in TV news in almost every job in the newsroom – a reporter, news editor, executive producer and presenter.

I’ve managed the news diary, the tip-off phone line and the inbox. I’ve read thousands of press-releases and pitches – I can show you the difference between what makes journalists sit up and listen and what doesn’t.
